Facebook Real Names Policy
Have you guys seen this yet? Just wanted to link it because a lot of people in the youtaite community use aliases instead of real names.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/16/living/facebook-name-policy/
And there is also this.
https://www.facebook.com/help/112146705538576
It looks like it's already in effect, so has anyone had to deal with this yet?

Re: Facebook Real Names Policy
i was talking with a friend just now because his account was terminated by facebook twice already because of it ; A ;
I kind of understand it but at them same time I don't? Of course that having a sexual predator or someone like it hiding behind a fake identity is scary has hell, but there are a lot of people that also need to 'hide', like the article mentions.
i think facebook has their priorities quite wrong lmao
it's not the first time i report pages/profiles for violence or impersonating people (asked by those who were impersonated) and facebook doesn't do a thing so... idek anymore

Re: Facebook Real Names Policy
I'm a little disturbed that Zuckerberg has such a narrow view of privacy and respects peoples' personal opinions about privacy so little. He made some comments about how it's wrong to have more than one identity because it has to do with lack of integrity, and I was kind of like, umm. Gosh.
In the name of security...! Is sort of what it seems like. I can understand that they want to make some things more secure, but I don't really like their way of doing it and also not letting people decide how they want to portray and present their identities.

Re: Facebook Real Names Policy
It hasn't happened to me or any of my circles yet. Nearly half of my facebook contacts use an alias because of cosplay or online singing.
I think they're trying to maintain Facebook as a professional site meant to keep people you've met irl in touch, rather than try to keep track of all the friends or contacts you'll ever make online or offline...
If that's the case, I'd rather move onto LinkedIn for professional profile or business opportunities. Facebook is my funfun page.

Re: Facebook Real Names Policy
I did notice that I couldn't put just Aerlith as my username. I had to include a last name. >.<; So maybe their real name detectors isn't that good yet?
I don't think that's a good way to go for Facebook. There are already business contact ones. << Facebook should remain more general because of how it's used to promote yourselves.

Re: Facebook Real Names Policy
there's a tricky way to avoid to put a last name (like i did lol) but that person i talked about just kept registering again with a fake name everytime the account was closed lol
and i totally agree. facebook is getting like a 'prison' full of rules and whatnot and no matter what the users opinions are, they don't change. for example the phone app, they just decided we needed two different apps, one for the facebook itself and the other for chatting, like what?
