Recording Help... Empty Recording Help...

Hello! Newbie here,I was just wondering...

There's this noise I cannot explain when I'm recording...is it because of my mic?

I've read in other threads that I shouldn't just invest on a good mic. Try a desktop mic first, because I need to be sure first if I'll stay long in this hobby.

Anyways,here's the weird sound...

Although I think it air. But I'm in a closed room :<

Please help me . _ .

Recording Help... Empty Re: Recording Help...

Welcome to the confusing world of making vocal covers, Ryuu-kun! 8D

It sounds like just white noise to me (it's something inherent in the recording equipment, and you can't really not have it), but I can't really tell without knowing how loud it is compared to your vocals.

You can try making sure your recording area is really quiet, lowering your mic sensitivity, and keeping your mic away from any source of noise (I used to get quite a bit of noise when I put my mic too close to my computer; it apparently picked up the sound of the fan really well >__>). What's really important is making sure you have a good signal (your vocals) to noise ratio.

For the noise that you can't get rid of, you can use the Noise Removal feature in Audacity. Highlight a section of just noise (no vocals) and go to Effect > Noise Removal > Sample (or something like that). Then select your track and do Noise Removal again. I haven't got Audacity open, but it should be pretty self explanatory.

One word of caution about Noise Removal is that Audacity isn't the smartest thing in the world, and it'll take out the frequencies in your vocals that are the same as what's in the noise, so if your noise is heavy, you'll end up with really odd sounding vocals. You can also choose by how much you want to reduce the noise in Noise Removal, and it may be a good idea to reduce the noise, but not completely remove it to spare your vocals.

Hope this was helpful! Good luck with recording!  Happiness
