My mic distortions my voice?
Hi, Guys i'm asking for your help, because i'm really frustrated.
(Sorry for my bad english)
I Just purchased today an Samson C03U Condenser Mic,
I already did read all the manual and all.
In the manual said that i had to download Softpre, and showed me the softpre instructions.(Gain and all that stuff, i thought it was going to be the best to set the mic.)
When i got in the website, i couldn't find it, and when i searched on the website, this came on:
"The SoftPre Applet is no longer available, as it is not necessary. The applet featured three options which can be found both in your Operating System's settings as well as in your recording software.
If you are still using SofrPre, we recommend you uninstall to prevent any interference with your System or Audio Recording software."
Okay, so, the cd software (Sonar Le) that came with it was too difficult to me.My bro (plays guitar) told me that i could use Reaper, like him. So i downloaded and asked him for any help i did need.
So then i started to record something, and i tried various ways to record, omni-directional, bi-directional, different angles as said the manual, volume as i think okay, generally a little slow, and no gain, and then, gain, with volume slow, volume high with no gain, etc,....
But there came the problem; No matter what, my voice distortionated, and is not my first time recording, so i'm used to hear my voice, but now was just, different, and i told my bro and all, and he said it didn't sounded like me, neither when i'm singing, neither when i'm talking.
The manual in the section of the softpre said that i had to be careful when seting gain and volume, because i could distortion my voice. but since softpre is no longer available.....
OMG I don't know what to do, and i really want to record but my voice doesn't sound like it.
Please help me! i beg you all!

Re: My mic distortions my voice?
Softpre is obsolete already, afaik. So yeah no need to install it.
And about the distortion thingy... were you recording really close to the microphone? Cause for condenser mics you'd really have to be at some distance.

Re: My mic distortions my voice?
Hmmmm, well.....i'll try to record something with some distance and hear it.....
*records*
it slightly gets better, but is still somewhat distortioned, and since my mic is somewhat sensitive,(recorded from 5 cms near and then 30 cms ) i don't want to level up the volume so it takes any sound he hears xD.
I may need something like Softpre. (uses win 7 netbook with really ugly sound card and all

Re: My mic distortions my voice?
That's the nature of condenser mics, it's really more sensitive to sound (so if you're in a noisy place.... good luck), but it's better for recording. And your sound card shouldn't matter since USB mics bypass the built-in sound card of your computer, or so I heard
Re: My mic distortions my voice?
Okay, thank you. but i still don't get solution to my distortion (still trying to record)
